Established in 1952, Vedder Price is a general practice law firm best
viewed in terms of three core areas of client service:
- Corporate Services, including Finance & Transactions, Banking and
Equipment Finance - Jonathan H. Bogaard
- Labor and Employment Services - Bruce R. Alper
- Litigation Services - Karen P. Layng
Within each of these core service areas are a number of significant
boutique practices whose reputations are national and even international
in scope. Within our corporate area, for instance, the firm enjoys a
world-class reputation in important areas of practice including
asset-based finance; banking; executive compensation; investment
services (mutual funds); and aircraft and equipment finance.
Bob Stucker, Chairman of Vedder Price, heads a 20-person team of
lawyers who advise the world’s leading companies, compensation
committees and executives in analyzing, negotiating and documenting
employment and compensation agreements for senior executives.
Michael Nemeroff, President of Vedder Price, chairs the firm’s
Finance & Transactions practice, which is comprised of more than 50
attorneys who concentrate in M & A, corporate finance, corporate
reorganization, securities and general corporate reorganization. The
members of this team counsel and advise the buyers and sellers of
businesses, emerging growth and technology companies, financiers and
lenders, venture capital and equity funds and investment banks and
corporate issuers on a broad range of corporate transactions.
Jon Bogaard, Dean Gerber and Ron Scheinberg lead a team of more than
45 structured finance specialists who are consistently ranked among the
top aircraft finance and maritime lawyers in the world. This group
represents lessees, lessors, financiers, and related parties—both
domestic and international—in a broad range of equipment finance
transactions, including those involving aircraft, railcars, vessels and
marine terminals, computers, industrial equipment, satellites, cars and
trucks.
Cathy O’Kelly and David Sturms direct 20 attorneys in the firm’s
Investment Services practice. This group represents some of the world’s
largest mutual funds, their managers and boards of directors. The group
also represents the leading trade organization for the mutual fund
industry, as well as leading investment advisers and broker-dealers.
The firm and its Financial Institutions Group, headed by Jim Kane,
was named as one of the top ten banking firms in the nation by the
editors of Bank Director magazine. The group is comprised of more than
20 professionals and represents public and private financial
institutions ranging in size from de novo banks to those with more than
$500 billion in assets.
In the area of Labor and Employment, Vedder Price is recognized as
one of the premier law firms in the nation, representing public and
private sector management clients in all areas of labor and employment
law. The firm’s practice is national in scope, combining both counseling
and litigation. Integrated with our labor and employment practice is the
firm’s Employee Benefits Group led by Paul Russell, Chuck Wolf, Tom
Desmond and Phil Mowery. Members of this group are responsible for the
design, implementation and legal compliance of profit-sharing, pension,
welfare and executive compensation programs of all types.
Our litigation attorneys are responsible for handling client matters
in trial and appellate courts, before administrative agencies, and in
arbitration and comparable alternative dispute resolution contexts.
Trial attorneys work closely with fellow Vedder Price attorneys in
various substantive legal areas. While the general philosophy is toward
minimal staffing at levels necessary to achieve effective and efficient
results, the litigation practice area has the resources to staff the
most complex litigation matters and has substantial experience in trying
lengthy, multiparty cases involving computerized depositions, massive
document management and sophisticated discovery and trial
techniques.
The litigation practice group gives constant attention to providing
cost-effective and efficient legal services regardless of the size of
the matter and continuously updates clients with respect to estimated
and actual expenses of litigation. Over the years, Vedder Price’s trial
attorneys have been involved in a significant number of cases that have
shaped the course of the law in various substantive areas at the local,
state and national level.
Within the litigation practice, there are a number of
industry-specific practice areas for which the firm is well known. These
include Accounting Law, chaired by Dan Goldwasser in our New York office
and the Construction Law Group, chaired by Karen P. Layng in Chicago.
The firm’s Accounting Law Practice Group represents more than 100
accounting firms in professional liability matters. Members of the
firm’s Construction Law Group provide a complete range of services to
the construction industry including the negotiation of contract
documents and the representation of contractors in breach of contract,
fraud, errors and omissions, delay damage and mechanics liens
claims.
