The CBA's Law Student Committee provides a forum for Chicago area law
students to not only participate in CBA events, but also bring student
issues to the attention of bar association leadership, make career
contacts and learn more about the realities of practicing law. Each bar
year, the Committee plans and hosts several annual events that area
specifically designed for law students. In addition, law student members
are encouraged to participate in the activities of the Young Lawyers
Section. Below is a short list of upcoming activities. Check out the YLS

Government Service Career
Fair – April 10
If you are considering a career working for
the government, attend the YLS's Annual Government Service Career Fair.
The Fair will begin with a panel discussion on legal careers in public
service followed by an opportunity to meet representatives from local
government offices. Resumes will be accepted at the discretion of the

Vanguard Awards - April 27 (Special Rate for Students)
The CBA and local bar associations will will honor the
individuals and institutions who have made the law and legal profession
more accessible to and reflective of the community at-large. Honorees to
be announced soon. Event will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at The Standard Club. Ten (10) tickets
are available at $30 for law students. First come,

2010 Law Week - April 26 to May 1
The Young Lawyers Section will be hosting several
complimentary events in honor of 2010 Law Week. Events include a judge's
reception, seminar on e-discovery in the 7th Circuit, Lunch with a
Judge, a celebration at Daley Center, public education events, and

Herman Kogan Media Awards Luncheon - May
4 (Special Rate for Students)
The CBA will host the 20th Annual Herman Kogan Media Awards
Luncheon on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Petterino's, 50 W Randolph,
Chicago. This special award was established in honor of the
late Herman Kogan who was a veteran Chicago journalist who
mastered a broad range of jobs in the media during his brilliant 50-
year career--from reporter and literary critic, to radio host and
television executive. This year's featured guest speakers will
be Walter Jacobson and Bill
Kurtis. Reception at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at 12:00
p.m. Tickets are available at the special rate of $30

Law students are welcome and encouraged to join YLS
committees. The YLS has 30 substantive committees, of
which most meet monthly over the lunch hour at the CBA. This is a great
opportunity to get familiar with different areas of the law and network
with members of the legal profession. The best part is, committee
meetings are FREE!
