Law Student Membership and Involvement in the CBA

The Young Lawyers Section's (YLS) Law Student Committee provides a forum for Chicago area law students to not only participate in CBA events, but also bring student issues to the attention of bar association leadership, make career contacts and learn more about the realities of practicing law. Each bar year, the YLS plans and hosts several annual events that area specifically designed for law students. In addition, law student members are encouraged to participate in the activities of the Young Lawyers Section. Below is a quick reference guide of upcoming events law student members are encouraged to attend as well as links to additional CBA services and programs that may be of use to the student member.

Finding Success in Your Legal Career
Join Kathy Morris of Under Advisement and the CBA's CAP Program at the November 5 meeting of the YLS Career Assistance Committee. From 12:15-1:15 p.m. at the CBA, Kathy will discuss how to identify skills that advance your legal career. Whether you're searching for a new position or settled in your job, get useful tips on how to achieve greater success within the legal profession. Behaviors that may undermine your advancement will also be addressed. Committee meetings are always free and open to CBA members and law student members.

Building Your Financial Future: Creating (and Sticking to) Long-Term Goals -November 13
Do you ever stress about money? Whether tackling student loan debt, looking to invest, or just needing some assurance, managing your finances can be one of the most emotionally fraught aspects of your life. Practicing law today also brings additional challenges that too often prevent attorneys from adequately addressing their own situation. During this session, Kristin Brandli Independent Financial Consultant, will provide practical tools and tips to help you define your goals and create long-term financial strategies that address every level of your "financial house."
