Law Week

The Young Lawyers Section will celebrate Law Week 2015 from April 25-May 1, 2015. Our events focus on the American Bar Association’s Law Week theme, "Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom Under Law." Members are welcome at all events and members of public are invited to join us for Call-A-Lawyer, CBATV, and the Law Day Celebration at Daley Plaza on May 1. Most events are free!

Call-A-Lawyer - April 25 (Open to the Public)
Callers will have the opportunity to speak to an attorney for free and receive general legal advice on Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 9:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., by calling 312-554-2001. Sponsored by the CBA Lawyer Referral Service.


Lunch Hour Call-A-Lawyer - April 27 to May 1
As an extension of the Call-A-Lawyer program, during Law Week, from Monday, April 27 through Friday, May 1, the public can call 312-554-2001 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and speak directly with attorneys from the LRS and receive general legal advice.

Law Day Live - April 27 to May 1 (see below for topic listing)
Internet users may access the CBA website ( to view live webcasts from 1:00-2:00 PM on a variety of legal topics and submit email questions to the attorneys in the webcast.

Lawyers in the Classroom - April 27
The Young Lawyers Section has been paired with 5th and 6th grade classes at Decatur Elementary, 7030 N. Sacramento, to participate in the spring edition of a YLS favorite, Lawyers in the Classroom, on April 27, 2015 from 8:30-10 a.m. The project aims to help local elementary students understand the U.S. Constitution and our legal System.  Volunteers will be provided materials and asked to attend a one hour training on how to lead the interactive lessons. Judge’s Reception - April 28
TheYLS will host its annual "Meet the Judges Reception" at the CBA on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. Judges from the Circuit Court of Cook County, Appellate Court, and Federal Court will be invited to attend. Liberty Bell Award Presentation - April 28
Presented at the Judge’s Reception to a nonlawyer whose exemplary community service has advanced the ideals of law and justice. This year's award will be presented by the Hon. Pamela Loza, of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Domestic Relations Division.

50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights & Voting Rights Acts - April 30
You are invited to join in the celebration of the 50th anniversaries of these important Acts on Thursday, April 30 at The Standard Club. Dr. Otis Moss, Jr. will present the keynote address. Law Day Celebration - May 1 (Open to the Public)
Join us for a free concert at the Richard J. Daley Center on May 1, 2015, at Noon to celebrate Law Day! The CBA's Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, composed of judges, lawyers, and law students, will perform musical selections and our keynote speaker will be Hon. Maureen Ward Kirby of the Circuit Court of Cook County, County Division. Judge Kirby will share her personal reflections of the Law Week theme "Magna Carta Symbol of Freedom Under Law."
