Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago
This is information on the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago.
The Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago provides free legal services
in civil matters to persons who live in the City of Chicago and are
unable to afford their own lawyer. Needy individuals with legal problems
may call the Foundation and arrange an appointment. The Foundation has
its main office at 111 W.Jackson, Suite 300, Chicago, IL 60604 -
Telephone (312) 341-1070, and maintains four branch offices throughout
the City.
In each office of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, there is a
staff of attorneys and paralegals with knowledge of the rights of
individuals in connection with a variety of legal problems, including
divorce and family law matters, Social Security, landlord-tenant, public
assistance, public housing, employment, discrimination, consumer,
utilities, domestic violence, and immigration. In some offices bilingual
staffs are available to assist individuals.
Each individual has the opportunity to discuss his legal problem and
receive proper legal advice and necessary service. There are some cases
Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago cannot take. Those excluded area
include, for example, criminal cases and suits for damages for personal
injuries from automobile accidents.
In addition to the neighborhood offices of the Legal Assistance
Foundation of Chicago, a number of special projects have been
established to meet particular needs such as the Legal Center for
Immigrants (312-341-9617); a unit for persons seeking divorces
(312-341-1046); and a unit for persons with HIV/AIDS (312-347-8309).
The Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago also provides legal counsel
to assist groups and organizations in working to help solve the legal
problems of those unable to afford their own lawyer. Representatives of
such organizations should feel free to call the Foundation to make an
appointment to discuss legal problems.
