Pro Bono Week

The Chicago Bar Association & The Chicago Bar Foundation's

10th Anniversary Celebration: 2014 Pro Bono Week

October 20-24, 2014
"Lifting Lives, Strengthening Access"

The CBA and CBF will sponsor Chicago's 10th Annual Pro Bono Week from October 20-24, 2014. The Week is chaired by:

10th Anniversary Co-Chairs:
Margaret C. Benson, Executive Director, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services
Hon. Michael B. Hyman, Appellate Court, First District

Co-Chairs:
E. Lynn Grayson, Partner, Jenner & Block LLP
Matthew A. Passen, Partner, Passen Law Group

The CBA and the CBF launched our annual Pro Bono Week with the twin goals of honoring lawyers' pro bono efforts and educating the public and the legal community about how these lawyers are improving the lives of the less fortunate. In 2014, Chicago will be joined by communities across the country for the sixth time in the American Bar Association's National Pro Bono Celebration.

Complimentary 10th Anniversary Celebration Events Include:

  • Game Night: A Battle of Pro Bono Barristers - October 20
    6:00-8:00 p.m. • Joe's Bar on Weed St.
How does your pro bono IQ compare to the pro bono IQ of your legal colleagues?  There is only one way to find out!  Join us at Joe’s on Weed St. for a tough but friendly pro bono battle of wits. Register as an individual or as a team. (We will organize teams for individual registrants). Teams of four are ideal given the set-up at the bar but teams with more than four members are welcome to register as well. The winning team will select a CBF grantee to receive a special grant of  $500. This game will include questions on access to justice topics including innovative new pro bono programs, relevant Illinois Supreme Court Rules, and the ethics of pro bono. Help us kick off pro bono week with this fun and educational competition!

Registration includes two drinks and appetizers. To register, email probonoweek@chicagobar.org and indicate: (1) whether you are registering as part of a team or as an individual, and (2) the name of your team if you are registering as part of a team.
