YLS Events

The Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association hosts many events and programs throughout the bar year designed to provide useful and relevant information along with networking opportunities for the new attorney. Information on upcoming events and opportunities are detailed below.

All Bar Social-April 30
You are invited to join the Young Lawyers Section on Wednesday, April 30,, 2014, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., for an evening of ping pong, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, drinks and mixing with Chicago's legal professionals. The YLS has invited local and specialty bar associations in the Chicagoland area to join the CBA for a fun evening of mingling and networking at Killerspin, located at 140 S Clark St. RSVP to the YLSCosponsors include: 7th Circuit Bar Association, Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, Korean Bar AssociationIllinois State Bar Association, Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicagoland and the Women's Bar Association of Illinois. 

Mother’s Day Project at Domestic Violence Shelter—May 9
On May 9 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., the YLS will host an evening of arts and crafts, pizza, and fun for the women and children of a Wrigleyville home for victims of domestic violence. Volunteers are needed to assist in all facets of having a good time, including helping the children make Mother’s Day gifts! Men are especially welcome to attend. Volunteers Needed for Wills for Heroes Event – May 10
Volunteers are needed for a Wills for Heroes Foundation event on April 12, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Chicago Police Department Headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago. At the event, volunteer lawyers help create free wills and other estate planning documents for local emergency first responders and their spouses or partners. Non-attorneys and law students can help too! A short training takes place at 8:00 a.m., followed by the event at 9:00 a.m. Free parking is available. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®-May 12
Get Ready to Walk! As part of the Young Lawyers Section's Violence Against Women Awareness Week, the YLS has teamed up with Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® to organize a unique walk for men through Chicago's Loop. Men are invited to literally walk one mile through Chicago's loop in women's high-heeled shoes (women are invited to participate and support the male walkers). The event aims to raise awareness about the cause and effects of sexualized violence and will be a fun way to get people talking about a very difficult subject. Proceeds will benefit our cosponsor, Between Friends. Participants must wear high heels. Purchase of a pair of high heels is the responsibility of the participant. Click here for more information or to register.
