The Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association hosts many
events and programs throughout the bar year designed to provide useful
and relevant information along with networking opportunities for the new

Donate Men’s and Women’s
Gently-Used Suits for New YLS Project
The Young Lawyers Section is launching a new project aimed at helping
high school seniors get ready to interview for their first jobs. Suits
for Success will provide approximately 75 male and 75 female students
from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School with the skills and ascetics needed
to excel during an interview. Elements of the project include providing
the students with donated suits, personal resume tips, and conducting

dry cleaning bags) can be dropped in the lobby of the Chicago Bar
Building, 321 S. Plymouth Ct., Chicago through October 30.

Lunch with a Judge-October 16
You're invited to have lunch with Hon. Larry Axelrood,
Circuit Court of Cook County. The judge will give thoughts on his
experience before becoming a judge and offer helpful tips on what young
lawyers should know. You must be a CBA member or law student member
to attend and you must register in advance of the lunch. Limit 100

21st Annual Pro Bono & Community Service Fair-October
Meet with representatives from almost 50 of Chicago's legal aid, pro
bono and community service organizations to network with likeminded
professionals and uncover the volunteer opportunity you have been
seeking. This year's event is being generously hosted at Skadden
Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, 155 N Wacker Dr., Chicago. Refreshments
will be served. Please note: This complimentary event is open
to law students and lawyers of all levels of legal experience.
The evening's program will indicate the level of experience required
by a particular organization. Presented by The Young

Trick-or-Treating with Off The Street Club-October
Join us for an afternoon of trick-or-treating! The YLS is teaming up
with Off The Street Club kids at the Spooky Zoo Spectacular at Lincoln
Park Zoo on Saturday, October 25th from 11 am - 2 pm.
Join the kids as they collect treats, make crafts and enjoy
entertainment at the zoo while dressed in their best or spookiest
costumes. Costumes are encouraged, but not necessary. Are you brave

Young Lawyers Section Children’s Book Drive-Nov 4 thru Dec
The YLS will collect new and gently used children’s books from
November 4 to December 6, 2013. All books will be donated to homeless
shelters, the children’s waiting room at the Daley Center, Carole
Robertson Center for Learning, the Cook County Juvenile Justice Center,
and Bookworm Angels. Drop off in the CBA lobby (321 S. Plymouth
CBA Moot Court Competition (Volunteers Needed) - November
The YLS is hosting its 33rd Annual Moot Court Competition on
November 13-15, 2014, at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago. This
year, 30 teams are competing from across the country.
The YLS needs attorneys to act as competition judges and brief graders.
Volunteer brief graders are asked to review and critique approximately
4-5 briefs near the middle of October and volunteer competition judges
are needed on the evenings of November 13 and 14 (5:30 p.m. or 7:30
p.m.) and the morning of November 15 (9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.).
Competition judges are eligible to earn Illinois MCLE credit.

Long-Term Goals -November 13

Volunteers Needed for Wills for Heroes Event –November
Volunteers are needed for a Wills for Heroes Foundation event on
November 152014, from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Chicago Police Department
Headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago. At the event, volunteer
lawyers help create free wills and other estate planning documents for
local emergency first responders and their spouses or partners.
Non-attorneys and law students can help too! A short training takes
place at 8:00 a.m., followed by the event at 9:00 a.m. Free parking is

Young Lawyers Section Dear Santa Letters
Help a child enjoy the holidays...answer a Dear Santa Letter! The YLS
will be distributing “Dear Santa” letters provided by Direct
Effect Charities, a group that receives thousands of letters from
disadvantaged youth from Chicago Public Schools requesting gifts from
Santa. Simply select a letter, purchase a few items the child has
requested, and mail the package. Letters will be available at the CBA
(321 S. Plymouth Ct.) in late November/early December or if you would
like to distribute letters at your firm, contact the YLS at 312-554-2031
or email@example.com. Complete instructions
will be attached to the letter.
