The Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association hosts many events and programs throughout the bar year designed to provide useful and relevant information along with networking opportunities for the new attorney. Information on upcoming events and opportunities are detailed below.

YLS Book and Supply Drive for Lawyers Lend-a-Hand to Youth Tutoring Students
Get in the holiday spirit this year by contributing to the YLS’ book and supply drive for the students of the Lawyers Lend-a-Hand to Youth tutoring program! The tutoring program partners with the Montessori School of Englewood, a public charter school, to provide free one-to-one tutoring and mentoring to students from Englewood (visit www.lawyerslendahand.org to learn more). To donate supplies, click here for the student’s “Amazon Wish List” and then purchase any of the requested items of your choosing. All books and supplies purchased from the list will be delivered to the CBA Building and packaged by YLS volunteers to be sent home with the students over their winter break from school. The YLS will host a pizza party to package the donated items on December 14, 2017 from 5:30-7:30pm. To attend and assist in packing the donated items, RSVP at to Tim Meloy at timothyrmeloy@gmail.com.

Chicago Coalition for Law-Related Education (CCLRE)’s Annual Mock Trial Competition
Attorney volunteers are needed to work with Chicago Public High School students as they prepare for a city-wide Mock Trial Competition to be held at the Daley Center. Coaches are needed starting in January 2018 and evaluators are needed for 5 evenings in March. To learn more or volunteer, contact Marta Almodovar at marta.almodovar@cookcountyil.gov or see the  volunteer coach form or volunteer evaluator form.

Become a Part of the CBA Anti-Violence Task Force to Make a Difference
The Young Lawyers Section has recently launched an Anti-Violence Task Force as an avenue for attorneys of all backgrounds to help remedy Chicago’s violence problem. The Task Force is a network of attorneys committed to facilitating connections between Chicago’s legal community and leaders and organizations contributing to solutions to Chicago’s violence problems.  The committee is currently seeking new members interested in having conversations about how to put an end to Chicago’s violence problems and volunteering directly with community organizations that are making a difference. CBA members may join the Anti-Violence Task Force, by visiting www.chicagobar.org/committees and selecting “Anti-Violence Task Force” from the list of Service Committees. You will then begin receiving notices of meetings and volunteer opportunities.

Organizations interested in joining the Task Force’s network of participating organizations should click here to complete the organization submission form.
