The Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association hosts many events and programs throughout the bar year designed to provide useful and relevant information along with networking opportunities for the new attorney. Information on upcoming events and opportunities are detailed below.


Get Published / Gain Editorial Experience on the New YLS Blog!
Are you looking for an opportunity to publish content and get your name out there as thought leader in Chicago’s legal community?  The Young Lawyers Section is launching a blog and is seeking contributors.  You can contribute by submitting a one-time article/post, becoming a regular columnist, or serving on the blog’s editorial committee. Reach out to the blog’s coordinator, Lindsey Purdy, at lindseylpurdy08@gmail.com with questions or interest.


Mentor a Legal Prep High School Student – Legal Prep’s Mentoring Program provides an opportunity for professionals and graduate students to build relationships with high school students. Legal Prep is a legal themed college prep high school in Chicago’s West Garfield Park Neighborhood.  Mentors are paired with a single support to support strengthening their confidence, professionalism, and responsibility towards themselves, their future and their communities.  The once monthly meetings are structured around particular goals and lesson plans to help guide and motivate the students to succeed in college and develop professionally.  For more info and to sign up click here.


YLS Presents Slate of 2018-2019 Officers and Directors
Pursuant to Section 5.4 of Article V of the By-Laws of the Young Lawyers Section, the Nominating Committee of the Young Lawyers Section submits its slate of candidates for election to the offices indicated. The term of office for each position to be filled shall be one year from the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Young Lawyers Section to the 2019 Annual Meeting, except the Co-Editors in Chief of the YLS Journal and the Directors shall have two-year terms. Become a Part of the CBA Anti-Violence Task Force to Make a Difference
The Young Lawyers Section has recently launched an Anti-Violence Task Force as an avenue for attorneys of all backgrounds to help remedy Chicago’s violence problem. The Task Force is a network of attorneys committed to facilitating connections between Chicago’s legal community and leaders and organizations contributing to solutions to Chicago’s violence problems.  The committee is currently seeking new members interested in having conversations about how to put an end to Chicago’s violence problems and volunteering directly with community organizations that are making a difference. CBA members may join the Anti-Violence Task Force, by visiting www.chicagobar.org/committees and selecting “Anti-Violence Task Force” from the list of Service Committees. You will then begin receiving notices of meetings and volunteer opportunities.

Young Lawyers Section Boat Cruise - August 9
Join the YLS for an evening aboard the Anita Dee on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan on Thursday, August 9, 2018, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Board at the north end of DuSable Harbor beginning at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased online or call 312-554-2056. CBA/CPA Speed Learning Event - August 16
The Illinois CPA Society and Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association welcome members of both groups to come together for a "speed learning" event on August 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the ICPA Headquarters, 550 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago. Attendees will share their knowledge of various topics during several fast-paced, facilitated discussions. The event is a terrific opportunity to make connections outside of your profession.

Discussion topics will include successful networking and business development strategies, uses of technology and practice management systems, understanding and correcting misconceptions about the legal and accounting professions, managing personal and professional priorities, how issues of diversity and inclusion impact each profession, and how attorneys and accountants can collaborate to better service clients.

An open happy hour will follow in Illinois CPA Society's plaza and learning suites to give attendees time to continue conversations and meet others. CBA members will receive 0.75 IL PR-MCLE credit. Register for the free event online or call 312-554-2056.


Young Lawyers Section Social - September 6
Join the YLS and the Union League of Chicago Club for a unique social to kick-off the new bar year!
