YLS Social Hour - November 20
The Young Lawyers Section will hold its November Social on Thursday, November 20, 2008, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Jimmy Fig's, 180 N. Franklin. Admittance includes one complimentary drink and appetizers.

Alliance for Women Mentoring Circles Meeting - November 25
The Alliance for Women's newest initiative, Women's Mentoring Circles, will hold its next meeting on November 25, 2008, at 12:00 p.m., at the CBA. At this meeting, we will review Mentoring Circles Fundamentals with the assistance of expert life coach Jenna Streeter. The deadline for Circle enrollment is November 21. CBA Family Holiday Festival at Navy Pier - December 7
Bring your family and join the CBA for the all new "Family Holiday Festival" at Navy Pier's Winter Wonderfest on Sunday, December 7, 2008, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Enjoy a special private holiday reception, with family-friendly food and beverages, in the Lakeview Terrace. Then enjoy the WonderFest which includes inflatables, carousel, climbing wall, ferris wheel, ice skating, cookie decorating, face painting and live entertainment by the CBA Chorus and the CBA Barristers Big Band. $40 per person, $10 for children under 12 (cost includes family-friendly food and beverages and unlimited access to all Winter WonderFest activities, including ice-skate rental). YLS Lunch ‘n’ Learn with a Judge – December 8
Members are invited to have lunch with the Hon. Michael J. Howlett, Jr., Juvenile Justice Division, Circuit Court of Cook County, on Monday, December 8, 2008, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the CBA. Judge Howlett will provide an overview of the juvenile justice system. Event includes free pizza lunch. You must be a CBA member to attend this event and you must register in advance of the lunch. CBA and ISBA to Honor Illinois Supreme Court - December 12
The CBA and the Illinois State Bar Association will honor the Justices of the Illinois Supreme Court with a dinner and reception on Friday, December 12, 2008. The event will feature Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier from the Fifth District as the keynote speaker. A reception will be held at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner and remarks at 7:00 p.m. The Sheraton is located at 301 E. YLS Texas Hold'em Tournament - January 23
Join the Young Lawyers Section at its third annual Texas Hold’em Tournament for the benefit of The Chicago Bar Foundation on Friday, January 23, 2008, at The Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Court. Check in begins at 5:00 p.m. and play begins at 6:00 p.m. The $150 entrance fee includes a casual buffet dinner and drinks and prizes will be awarded to top players. The tournament allows for rebuys and add-ons. Volunteers Needed to Evaluate Judges
The Judicial Evaluation Committee is looking for volunteers to serve in its Investigation Division. The Committee evaluates candidates for the bench and sitting judges seeking retention. You must be a CBA member with a few years of practice experience to apply. If you are a current JEC member there is no need to reapply. All You Need is (g)Love Children's Winter Coat Collection - Through November 21
The YLS is participating in the All You Need is (g)Love Children's Winter Coat Drive that is sponsored by Lawyers Lend-A-Hand. Drop off clean, gently used winter coats and other items in the CBA lobby through November 21. Monetary donations for the purpose of purchasing new coats are also being accepted. Learn more or make a donation.

YLS Children’s Book Drive -Through December 12
The Young Lawyers Section will collect new and gently used children’s books from November 10 to December 12, 2008. All books will be donated to homeless shelters, the children’s waiting room at the Daley Center, the Cook County Juvenile Justice Center, and the William C. Goudy Elementary School (the CBA’s adopted school). Donations may be dropped off in the CBA lobby (321 S. Plymouth Ct.).

Dear Santa Letters
Help a child enjoy the holidays...answer a Dear Santa Letter! The YLS will be distributing “Dear Santa” letters from disadvantaged Chicago youth provided by the Chicago Post Office. Simply select a letter, purchase a few items the child has requested, and mail the package. Letters will be available at the CBA (321 S. Plymouth Ct.) in early December or if you would like to distribute letters at your firm, contact Jenni Bertolino at 312-554-2031 or yls@chicagobar.org. Complete instructions will be attached to the letter.

CBF Pro Bono Support Program
Pro bono can fit anyone’s schedule and interests! Opportunities are available in virtually every area of law and range from commitments of one or two hours to extended trial and appellate work. The CBF Pro Bono Support Program serves as a clearinghouse for attorneys to find pro bono opportunities.
