Come for a primer on computer forensics. In keeping with the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) we will focus on the preservation and collection of electronically stored information (ESI) in anticipation of litigation or for internal investigation. This course will emphasize:
  • Ethical considerations in forensics science and law
  • An overview of electronically stored information
  • Potential sources of ESI and best practices for ESI data collection and preservation
  • Searching and keyword strategies
  • Pertinent rules of evidence
  • The role of the forensics expert
  • Pros and cons of self-collection v. retaining a forensics expert.

Ultimately, this program will better prepare law firms and in-house counsel to minimize risk and cost while maintaining defensibility and ethical obligations in the maintenance of electronically stored information.

Greg Cancilla, Director of Forensics, RVM
