This program will address the immigration consequences of criminal convictions for noncitizen defendants. The presentation will provide an accessible overview of criminal grounds of inadmissibility and deportability under the Immigration & Nationality Act and how certain offenses fit within these categories. It will also address how criminal grounds of inadmissibility and deportability subject noncitizens to removal from the U.S. or otherwise affect their eligibility to obtain lawful status. The session will also address strategies and alternative pleas for defense attorneys seeking to avoid adverse immigration consequences for their noncitizen clients.
