A high speed Internet connection such as Cable, DSL, T1, etc is recommended for viewing CBA webcasts.

  2. What are the system requirements for viewing a CBA webcast?
The CBA Webcast Center requires the use of Adobe Flash Player version 9 or higher. Additionally, JavaScript must be enabled and the RTMP protocol must not be blocked on your firewall. Prior to viewing any videos, you may test your system's compatibility at the CBA Webcast Center.

  3. What if my connection to the webcast fails during the program?
If your connection fails during a live webcast, you can re-login to continue viewing the webcast. If you choose not to re-login during the live broadcast, your partial attendance will not be recorded. To receive credit, you must wait to view the entire webcast as an archived event.

Purchasing Programs

  1. How do I purchase webcast programs from the CBA?
Available programs are listed on the CBA Website under CLE Seminars. You may choose to look at upcoming live programs or archived programs. For more information about a specific program or to purchase the program, click on the blue dot under "CBA Webcast". The program you selected will be displayed on the registration page. To purchase the program, select "Add to Basket" (you must login to the website with your account number and password). If you wish to add additional programs, click on CLE Seminars to select additional programs. When you have finished selecting programs, fill in the required credit card information in the Shopping Basket and click on "Check-Out".

  2. How do I know my purchase has been completed successfully?
You will receive a confirmation e-mail. You will also be able to see which programs you are registered for by going to the CBA Webcast Center.

  3. How do I access programs for which I am enrolled?
To access programs login to the CBA website, and go to CBA Webcast Center. Click on the program you wish to view. Live programs will be accessible approximately 15 minutes before the webcast is scheduled to begin. Archived programs are accessible at your convenience.

When the program is running, you can download program materials in PDF format and email questions to speakers. For live programs, the program moderator will receive the questions. For archived programs, questions will be forwarded to the speaker or other qualified attorney for a response.

  4. What is the CBA's registration and cancellation policy?
For webcast programs, registrations must be received 15 minutes prior to the start of the seminar. For CLE Advantage members, if you are not able to view the webcast as a live event, your registration will be transferred to the archived webcast (generally available within one week of the live event). For paid registrants, you must cancel in writing 24 hours prior to the live seminar start time to receive a full refund (email seminars@chicagobar.org or fax to 312-554-2054). After that time period, your registration will be transferred to the archived webcast (generally available within one week of the live event).

  5. How can I get a subscription to the CBA's webcast programs?
Join the CBA's CLE Advantage plan to attend most 2 to 3 hours CBA and YLS Continuing Legal Education programs during the plan year of June 1 to May 31 for only $150. For more information, click on CLE Advantage Plan
  6. If I am a CBA CLE Advantage Plan member, can I attend live and archived webcasts at no additional charge?
Most CBA seminars will be webcast and included on the CLE Advantage Plan. An additional payment may apply to some programs as noted in the seminar registration information. Some special CLE programs may exclude use of the plan.

General Questions

  1. Where can I find the date and time of live webcasts for which I have registered?
When you register, you will receive a confirmation email with that information. Or login to the CBA website, then click on CBA Webcast Center to see a list of the programs, including date and time, for which you are registered.

  2. When I enroll in a program, how long do I have to view it?
Archived, or previously recorded programs, may be viewed up to 180 days after the date of purchase. Live webcasts are available only at the scheduled time. An archived version of the live webcast will be made available to you for 180 days after the webcast.

  3. If I miss viewing the live program, will I have access to the archived version?
Yes, if you miss the live program you will be able to view the archived program. Archived programs will be posted to the website approximately 7-10 business days after the original webcast date. You will be able to access them after you login to the CBA website and go to the CBA Webcast Center.

  4. How can I tell the length of time of an archived webcast?
The program descriptions indicate the available MCLE Credit. The credits indicate the length of the program (rounded down to the nearest quarter hour), ie. 1.75 credits means the program is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes long.

  5. Do I have to view the entire webcast at one time? Can I pause and start where I left off?
If you are watching an archived program, you are not required to watch the program all at one time. You must insert a bookmark at the location you stop watching the program in order to start at that point again. The attendance verification question will not appear nor will you be able to print a Certificate of Attendance until the entire program has been viewed.

  6. How do I access program materials when viewing a webcast program?
When viewing the program, the materials are available for viewing as a pdf document.

  7. How do I ask questions during a webcast program?
For live programs and archived CLE Seminars, you have the option of emailing a question to the speaker(s). During live programs, your question will be sent to the moderator. For archived CLE Seminars, your question will be forwarded to the appropriate speaker or other knowledgeable attorney for response. Speakers from archived programs will respond within 2 business days.

  8. How do I find how many CLE credits I have earned on webcast programs?
For members, the CBA's MCLE Tracker will list all credits you have earned at CBA and YLS seminars and meetings attended via webcast or in-person.

Non-members are able to access the programs they have viewed by going to the CBA Webcast Center. Attendance for any program previously viewed online is recorded and you may click the "Attendance" link on the bottom of the page to print a certificate. (You must be logged in to the CBA website with your account and password to view the program list.)

Accreditation Questions

  1. Can I get MCLE credit for online CLE programs?
The CBA is an Accredited CLE Provider in Illinois. As an Accredited CLE Provider all of our CLE courses and activities have been presumptively approved for general Illinois MCLE credit by the Illinois MCLE Board. The amount of MCLE credit available for each program is provided on the program announcement.

The CBA must apply to the Illinois Professionalism Commission for ethics/professional credit for courses in which such credit is sought. For those programs, MCLE credit will be listed as "subect to approval" until approved by the Commission. If approval is received prior to the program, the online listing will be updated. If approval is received subsequent to the program date, you will receive an email notifying you of the number of credits with instructions on downloading an MCLE Certificate of Attendance.

  2. What is a program's accredited expiration date?
A program is accredited for a period of 2 years after its initial program date.

  3. How do I access and print my Certificate of Attendance?
At the completion of the program, an attendance verification question will appear on the bottom of the screen. After you verify that you have viewed the entire program, you will be prompted to print your MCLE Certifcate of Attendance. For members within one week after viewing the program, your attendance will be recorded on the CBA=s CLE Tracker and you will be able to print a duplicate certificate if necessary. Non-members are able to print duplicate certificates by returning to the attendance page of the program.

If you are watching an archived program, you are not required to watch the program all at one time. You must insert a bookmark at the location you stop watching the program in order to start at that point again. The attendance verification question will not appear nor will you be able to print a Certificate of Attendance until the entire program has been viewed.

Pursuant to the Illinois MCLE Rules, you must keep your Certificate of Attendance for three years after the end of the relevant two-year reporting period. Do not submit it to the Illinois MCLE Board, unless the MCLE Board requests it for audit purposes.

  4. Can I earn partial MCLE credit if I do not view the entire webcast?
The entire webcast must be viewed to receive MCLE credit.

  5. What does "subject to approval" mean under the MCLE listing?
The CBA must apply to the Illinois Professionalism Commission for ethics/professional credit for courses in which such credit is sought. For those programs, MCLE credit will be listed as "subject to approval" until approved by the Commission. If approval is received prior to the program, the online listing will be updated. If approval is received subsequent to the program date, you will receive an email notifying you of the number of credits with instructions on downloading an MCLE Certificate of Attendance.

  6. Can I earn out-of-state MCLE Credit for CBA webcasts?
CBA webcasts are only accredited in Illinois.

MCLE Credit Tracking

  1. What is the CBA MCLE Credit Tracker?
As a CBA member benefit, the MCLE Credit Tracker automatically records members credits earned at accredited programs and committee meetings produced by the CBA and the YLS.

The CLE Credit Tracker also allows members to input credits earned at non-CBA sponsored programs and other non-traditional CLE activities, as defined by Illinois Supreme Court Rule 795, including publication of legal articles, part-time teaching at law schools, and pro bono training. The CBA is not responsible for verifying MCLE accreditation for non-CBA programs or activities that members enter into the MCLE Credit Tracker.

  2. How do I add information about CLE programs I have completed elsewhere to my credit tracker on CBA?
Members may add credits from non-CBA CLE programs to the CBA's MCLE Tracker. Simply click on "Update Other Activities" then "Add Activity". Enter the requested information and then click "Submit".

  3. How do I know that I have successfully completed a program?
At the completion of the program, an attendance verification question will appear on the bottom of the screen. After you verify that you have viewed the entire program, you will be prompted to print your MCLE Certificate of Attendance. You will also be asked to complete an evaluation of the program.

  4. How do I find my CLE credits for CBA programs I have attended?
For members, the CBA's MCLE Credit Tracker automatically compiles credits earned at accredited seminars and committee meetings produced by the CBA and the CBA Young Lawyers Section.

Non-members are able to see what online programs they attended by going to the CBA Webcast Center. Non-members are able to print duplicate certificates by returning to the attendance page of the program.

CBA and YLS Committee Meeting Webcasts

  1. How do I view a live committee meeting webcast?
You must be a CBA member to view a committee meeting webcast. Available committee meetings are listed on the CBA Website under Webcast Center.

You do not need to pre-register to attend a live committee meeting. To view a live meeting webcast, click on committee meeting title link. You must access the meeting online by the meeting start time, usually 12:15 p.m., in order to view the live meeting. Materials for the committee meeting are available for view and download under the “Materials” link below the video screen.

  2. How do I ask questions to the speaker at a live committee meeting webcast?
You may email the speakers questions by going to the "Email a Question" link below the video screen. The meeting chair will receive the question and ask the speaker to answer it.

  3. How do I get my MCLE certificate for viewing an online committee meeting webcast?
MCLE credit is only available for attending a live, committee meeting webcast. At the meeting's completion, an attendance verification question will appear at the bottom of the screen. The amount of MCLE credit available for a committee meeting is determined after the meeting. Your MCLE credit for attending the meeting will appear on the CBA’s online MCLE Credit Tracker approximately 10 business days after the meeting.

  4. What is an archived committee meeting? Can I earn MCLE credit watching an archived committee meeting?
Archived, or previously recorded committee meetings, will be available for viewing approximately 10 days after the original, live meeting date. You access the archived committee meetings using the same method as a live meeting, by clicking on the committee meeting title link listed at the Webcast Center under Committee Meetings. You may view an archived committee meeting in full or in part (insert a bookmark at your stop location in order to return to that point at a later date). There is no link to email a speaker a question for an archived committee meeting.

MCLE is not awarded for viewing an archived committee meeting.

(Please note that an archived committee meeting does differ from an archived seminar that is available for purchase. MCLE Credit may be earned for viewing archived CLE seminars.)
