The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women is an international treaty adopted in 1979 by the United Nations. CEDAW is described as an international bill of rights for women. The United States is one of a handful of countries that has yet to ratify CEDAW. What does CEDAW mean? How has it impacted women, girls and families in other countries? How does the U.S. rank internationally on gender equality? Is it time for the U.S. Senate to ratify CEDAW?

The EU Data Privacy Law and its Application to US Companies
The General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”), is a set of European rules that became effective on May 25, 2018. It has set new and higher standards for privacy rights of individuals located in the EU and obligations imposed on controllers and processors either located in the European Union or located outside, but to which the GDPR applies. The presentation will decipher situations when the GDPR applies to US entities, which obligations result therefrom, and what are the main challenges that non-EU companies have been facing when ensuring their compliance with the GDPR.

The Changes Coming to Intellectual Property Protection in the UK as a Result of its Impending Brexit
As a result of the United Kingdom’s Brexit vote in June 2016, which has been delayed in its implementation several times, the UK is now in a period of transition which ends on December 31, 2020. This presentation will explain what will happen to EU rights, which previously had effect in the United Kingdom, as well as what will happen to UK rights which previously had effect in the EU. We will also discuss the precedential effects of decisions of different courts and administrative bodies which had effect while the UK was part of the EU.
