Why Your Law Firm Needs a Records Retention and Destruction

The management and storage of closed client files can be challenging and the volume and complexity of managing records has only increased with the impact of technology.  Every law firm regardless of size should have a policy on the retention and destruction of closed client files.  Developing procedures for the retention, storage and destruction of closed client files can assist in controlling the volume and types of records retained, manage risk and fulfill ethical and legal responsibilities. In this seminar, we’ll cover the key elements of an effective record retention and destruction policy including: identifying the types of records to retain; setting retention periods; maintain records in storage; and proper file destruction procedures.
