TOPIC: Practicing Civility Even When Others are Uncivil

A healthy lawyer is a professional lawyer. However, it is challenging to maintain your professionalism when someone is being uncivil. Luckily, there are techniques to manage your response to this type of behavior and even defuse incivility. Learn, practice, and discuss these skills to improve both your well-being and the well-being of the legal profession.

SPEAKER/ORGANIZATION:  Stephanie Villinski is the Deputy Director of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism. She helps to execute operations and programs within the Commission by leveraging technology and project management processes. As Deputy Director, Stephanie is responsible for streamlining the day-to-day activities of the Commission such as IT, workflows, and data analysis. In addition to these operations, Stephanie also supports the Commission’s mentoring, education, and law school programs. 

Stephanie graduated summa cum laude from Saint Mary’s College with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanistic Studies and from DePaul University College of Law with Order of Coif distinction. Subsequently, she dedicated her career to social justice and public interest law. Most recently, she was the Content Director at Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) and was charged with publishing high-quality, user-centered content. Prior to her work at ILAO, Stephanie was an attorney at Legal Aid Chicago (formerly the Legal Assistance Foundation) where she represented clients in consumer, education, employment, family, foreclosure, housing, and public benefits cases and specialized in public housing issues throughout Chicago. Current professional associations include: ABA, CBA, ISBA, and WBAI.
