About Judge Patton
Nichole Patton is a Circuit Court Judge of Cook County where she is currently assigned to the County Division. Judge Patton presides over matters involving Mental Health Law, Real Estate Tax Objections, Civil Asset Forfeitures, Election Law, Emancipation of Minors and Name Changes.
Prior to her ascension to the Bench, she was an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney Office, Special Prosecutions Bureau, Senior and Persons with Disabilities Unit. She was responsible for prosecuting cases seeking civil commitment and treatment orders for individuals who were involuntarily detained at mental health hospitals in Cook County. Earlier in her legal career, Judge Patton was a sole practitioner with a concentration in real estate law, civil litigation, criminal, and securities law. She was also an associate with the law firm of Iwan Cray Huber Horstman & VanAusdal where she concentrated in the areas of medical malpractice and transportation defense. Before joining Iwan Cray, she was a staff attorney with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where she specialized in personal injury defense and strict liability matters. Judge Patton also served as an Administrative Hearing Officer for the Village of Matteson where she presided over hearings for housing code violations, towing, compliance and minor criminal offenses.
Judge Patton is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, where she serves on their Board of Managers and is the former Chair of the Mental Health and Disabilities Law Committee. She is also a board member for The Chicago Bar Foundation where she is committed to developing solutions to the access to justice issues. Judge Patton is a member of the Board of Directors for The Lawyers Club of Chicago. She also serves as a Board Member for Respond Now, a nonprofit organization that provides south suburban Chicagoland low-income residents with emergency funds for paying mortgage, rental, and utility assistance. The organization also provides free food, school supplies and emergency shelter for families in need.
Judge Patton received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Alabama State University where she was the recipient of the prestigious Presidential Scholarship award, a master’s degree in criminal justice from Chicago State University where she received an academic scholarship, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s John Marshall Law School where she was a member of the Moot Court Team. She has taught as an instructor at Prairie State College.
Judge Patton is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, and The Links, Incorporated. Nichole and her husband, Marty, have three children.
