The Chicago Bar Association sends our best wishes to Chief Justice Anne Burke on the news of her upcoming retirement. We commend Chief Justice Burke for her loyal and dedicated service to the people of Illinois. 

The Chicago Bar Association congratulates Justice Joy V. Cunningham on her appointment to the Illinois Supreme Court. Justice Cunningham served as President of the Chicago Bar Association from 2004 to 2005. She was the first African American woman elected President of the Association. 

“Chief Justice Anne Burke has served our citizenry for many years with great distinction not only in her capacity as a jurist, but as an exemplary and caring leader in our community,” said CBA President Timothy Tomasik. “By the same measure, the Chicago Bar Association is very proud of Past CBA President Joy V. Cunningham ascending to the Illinois Supreme Court. The people of the State of Illinois will benefit greatly from her continuing service on our highest court.”
