The CBA's Professional Responsibility Committee authors ethics opinions interpreting the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct for members. The Committee issues legal ethics opinions as a public service to aid lawyers in interpreting the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct. The opinions represent a composite judgment of a majority of those members of the Committee voting on the opinions and do not constitute an official act of The Chicago Bar Association. The opinions are not binding upon the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission or on any court and should not be relied upon as a substitute for legal advice.
